Short Biography:

Sushmita Roy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at University of Barishal, where she has been teaching since 2013. She completed her MSc in Global Environmental Politics and Policy from Birkbeck, University of London in 2023 and earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Political Science from University of Dhaka.


Her research focuses on environmental governance, climate change, political culture, democracy, human rights, and conflict studies. She has published several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on climate migration, urban environmental challenges, political movements, and climate injustice in Bangladesh. Her recent research includes projects on environmental governance in Rohingya management and climate change perceptions among coastal communities in southern Bangladesh.


Alongside her academic work, she has been actively involved in civic education and community engagement initiatives, including serving as a course instructor for a USAID-funded civic education program designed by IFES. She has received multiple academic scholarships and awards for excellence, including merit scholarships from the University of Dhaka and the Dhaka Education Board.


Sushmita Roy is skilled in qualitative and quantitative research tools, including SPSS, EndNote, Zotero, R, and basic Python for statistical analysis. Her academic interests include international conflict, democracy and human rights, and environmental policy.
